Welcome to Lappeenranta!

And especially welcome to the field of computational engineering and our guild, Lateksii ry! This page will be updated with information directed at new students.

Traditionally, a shared WhatsApp group is formed for freshers, tutors, the study advisor, and the fresher captain. You will receive an invitation to join this group in the fall when your tutor contacts you. Before that, you can check out our guild's Fresher guide, the "Kaavakokoelma," where you can get a taste of your upcoming fresher year. You can find it here!

Fresher Weeks

Your journey at the university begins with fresher weeks, during which you'll get to know the university, its staff, as well as your fellow students, both in your program and from other fields. During fresher weeks, you'll also get acquainted with the "teekkari" culture through various events. Fresher weeks include both official and unofficial programs for each day, happening at a relatively fast pace. The program includes activities organized by your study program, the university, and LTKY, so schedules can be found from various sources, but the essential details are hopefully gathered below:

The most up-to-date information can be found here, and it's worth familiarizing yourself with these pages in general:

Tutors and Study Advisor

During fresher week, you will be assigned your very own tutor, whose job is to help and advise you on everything related to your studies and university life. Tutors are an essential support during the first periods, so make sure to remember your tutor's name and face.

Your studies are also supported by a study advisor, whom you will meet right away during the orientation week. You can and should turn to them if you encounter even minor difficulties in your studies or if you're unsure which courses you should or could register for.

Fresher Captain

Throughout your first academic year, you will also be accompanied by the guild's own fresher captain, who can be described as a tutor for student life. You'll encounter them during fresher weeks but also throughout the academic year at the guild house and various events. Their task is to guide you into the world of Skinnarila student culture and to help you grow into a proper "teekkari" over the course of the year.

Fresher Point Card

During the fresher year, you'll collect points on the so-called fresher point card. Points are awarded for both academic progress and event participation. If your card is well-filled, you'll be able to proudly wear your brand-new "teekkari" cap on Wappu; otherwise, you'll receive it on Flora's Day. However, there's no need to stress about filling the card, as points will accumulate easily alongside your studies and other activities.
